About Tested on Mac

Tested on Mac publishes short, practical guides for people who use a Mac every day — developers, students, and anyone who has ever pasted a command from the internet and hoped for the best.

Most "how to" answers online were written for macOS versions that are years old, or were never actually run. Paths change (Homebrew moved to /opt/homebrew on Apple Silicon), defaults change (zsh replaced bash), and commands quietly stop working. We fix that by testing first and writing second.

How every guide is tested

  1. Run it. Every command in a guide is executed on our test Mac: MacBook Air (M3, 16 GB) running macOS Tahoe 26.6.2 with zsh 5.9.
  2. Paste the real output. Output blocks are copied from the terminal, not typed from memory. Personal details such as usernames and IP addresses are redacted.
  3. Say what we did not run. Some commands need administrator rights or would change system settings. When we did not execute a step, the guide says so in the green "Tested" box at the top.
  4. Re-check on updates. When a new macOS version ships, guides are re-run and the "Updated" date changes.

Use of AI

We use AI tools to help draft and edit text. A guide is only published after its commands have been executed on the test Mac and the output and instructions have been checked against that run. If you find a mistake, please tell us — corrections are usually published within a day.
